POST-GAME NOTES

New Jersey defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 3-1 W, and won their 2017-18 regular-season series, 2-1-0, at KeyBank Center (NJD – 2-0-0 road).

The victory moved the Devils into third place among the Metropolitan Division (25-16-8=61PTS).  They are two wins away from tying their 2016-17 win-total

New Jersey did not have any power play opportunities for the second time this season.  They were 3-4 (75.0%) on the penalty-kill. Buffalo center Ryan O’Reilly scored the lone goal for the Sabres at 14:58 of the second period to halve the Devils lead to, 2-1.

Miles Wood scored the opening goal of the game for the club, after a scoreless first period, to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead.  Rookie defenseman, Will Butcher (27) and Kyle Palmieri (9) had the assists on Wood’s game-winner.

Taylor Hall scored his team-leading 18th goal of the season to put New Jersey ahead, 2-0, at 5.31 of the second period. The 19-year-old rookies Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier recorded the assists on Hall’s goal.

It was his first game since missing the last three, Jan. 22-25 (right hand, thumb) and the 2018 NHL All-Star Game in Tampa Bay.  Hall could not attend the All-Star Game because of his day-to-day injury.  First year Devils and Alternate Captain, Brian Boyle, took his teammate’s place as New Jersey’ representative for the Metropolitan Division. The former Tampa Bay Lightning (2014-2016) was a fan favorite at the event.

Kyle Palmieri scored his ninth goal of the season to seal the deal for New Jersey at with six second remaining in regulation time.

Devils’ goaltender Keith Kinkaid was removed from I.R. (groin, Jan. 22-25) this afternoon and made his first start since Jan. 20 at PHI. He stopped 27 of 28 shots and is now 8-4-2 on the season and he has three wins over his last 4GP, Jan. 16-30. He is a perfect 3-0-0 in his NHL career against the Sabres.
