The Devils lost, 0-3, in their fourth consecutive game in regulation , 0-4-0, from Jan. 20-25. It is the first time this season that the club has dropped four consecutive games in regulation. Tonight was the club’s final home game this month, they were 1-3-0 at Prudential Center in January.
New Jersey will head into the All-Star Break with a 24-16-8 (56 PTS).
The clubs will face-off once more this season when the Devils travel to Nashville on Mar. 10.
After a choppy first period, Nashville opened up the scoring when PK Subban scored 9:48 into the second period, and did not stop. Mattias Ekholm and Viktor Arvidsson had the Predators other goals.
Forward Kevin Rooney was called up from Binghamton (AHL), in his fifth NHL game. He had three shots on net in 11:46 minutes. The last contest Rooney played in, was March 11, 2017 where he recorded one shot in 10:24. of action.
Goaltender Ken Appleby started in goal for the first time in his NHL career tonight. He stopped 24 of 27 shots. He had appeared twice before this season in relief of Keith Kinkaid and Cory Schneider on Jan. 20 at PHI and Jan. 23 at, respectively.
Jimmy Hayes led all Devils’ skaters with five shots on goal, while defenseman Sami Vatanen led the club with 19:51 of ice-time.
Following the game, it was announced that Devils’ forward Brian Boyle will replace Taylor Hall (hand) at the NHL All-Star Game this weekend in Tampa Bay. It is the first NHL All-Star Game of Boyle’s NHL career. He was 75% (6-8) in the faceoff circle tonight.
Before the game, the Devils announced that they recalled G Mackenzie Blackwood from Binghamton (AHL). Cory Schneider did not dress tonight with a groin injury. The club placed Marcus Johansson on I.R, retroactive to Jan. 23, due to the concussion he suffered from Bruins’ forward Brad Marchand’s illegal elbow to the head in the last game.
New Jersey has one game remaining in January when they return from the All-Star Break. They play the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Arena on Tuesday.

New Jersey’s Hockey Operations Dept., has several ties with Nashville. Devils’ EVP/GM Ray Shero served Nashville as assistant GM (1998-2006), Assistant GM Tom Fitzgerald was the franchise’s first-ever captain (1998-2002), and Sr. Director of Player Personnel Dan MacKinnon served in various positions with their scouting dept. from (2000-2006).
