Devils Post-Game: 10/28/17 vs. Arizona Coyotes

  • The Devils closed-out their third of 16 sets of back-to-back games, defeating the Arizona Coyotes, 4-3.  They are 2-1-0 in first games and 2-1-0 in second games of games on consecutive nights this season.
  • New Jersey has two straight wins at home for their first winning-streak at Prudential Center this season. This was the only scenario where the club play two nights in a row at home.
  • After ten games, New Jersey is 8-2-0 (4-2-0 home / 4-0-0 road). Their .800 winning percentage is ranked third best in the NHL.  Last season, they were 4-3-4 after ten games.
  • Despite the victory, the club was out-shot 37-25.
  • The Devils power play was a perfect 2-2 while their penalty-killing squad was 4-5. New Jersey’s power play is ranked fourth-best (27.5%) in the NHL.  (80.%).  New Jersey took a total of ten penalty minutes tonight, compared to Arizona’s four.
  • New Jersey has 38 goals scored through ten games this season which is the fourth-most in the NHL (tie, NYI / PHI).
  • Taylor Hall scored two goals and one assist.  He leads the team with 13PTS (3G-10A). He has 8PTS (2G-6A) over his last four games.
  • Jesper Bratt notched the game-winner with 4:23 to go in the third period. After a five-game goal-less drought from Oct. 13 to Oct. 20, he has four points, one goal and three assists in his last two games.
  • Brian Gibbons scored his fifth goal of the season, on a shorthanded penalty shot.  The last time a Devil scored at Prudential Center was January 22, 2013 when Ilya Kovalchuk scored on Philadelphia’s Ilya Bryzgalov. At 11:55 of the first period, the Situation Room initiated a video review to further examine Brian Gibbons’ penalty shot attempt. Video review confirmed that Gibbons shot the puck into the Arizona net in a legal fashion. Good goal New Jersey.
  • Earlier this afternoon, the Devils traded goaltender Scott Wedgewood to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Arizona’s fifth-round selection (previously acquired in the Michael Stone trade with CGY) in the 2018 NHL Draft.  New Jersey will now have eight selections in the 2018 NHL Draft, including the club’s original seven choices.  He dressed tonight as Arizona’s backup but did not play.
  • Cory Schneider was activated off injured reserve after missing two games with a lower body injury/birth of child). He stopped 34 of 37 shots and is 5-1-0.
  • Andy Greene (personal) missed tonight’s game due to the birth of his son, Maddox David.
  • Marcus Johansson (lower body, suffered in warmup) missed his first game since the 2015-16 season.
  • Adam Henrique had one assist tonight and has points, one goal and one assist in his last two games.
