TEAM NOTES

  • New Jersey won its third consecutive game and improved to 6-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 on the road. The Devils came from behind for their second consecutive win when trailing after two periods. 
  • The Devils have won six of their first 7 games for the first time since 2002-03.*

  • Tonight’s game opened the second of 16 sets of back-to-back games for the Devils. The club is now 1-1-0 in first games and 1-0-0 in second games of back-to-back sets.
  • New Jersey has now required extra-time for the second game in a row.
  • The Devils are 4-0-0 against Atlantic Division opponents. 
  • New Jersey was 4-6 (66.7%) on the penalty kill tonight. The club killed off three seconds of a 5-on-3 disadvantage in the third period.
  • The Devils were 0-4 (0.0%) on the power play this evening. This was only the second game the Devils did not score on the man-advantage (Oct. 9 at BUF) in the 2017-18 season.
  • The Devils out-shot Ottawa, 46-33, which was a season-high shot total for New Jersey.
  • At 4:21 of the first period in the Devils/Senators game, Ottawa requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether a New Jersey player interfered with Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson prior to Nico Hischier’s goal. The Referee confirmed no goaltender interference infractions occurred before the puck crossed the goal line. Therefore the original call stands – good goal New Jersey Devils.

PLAYER NOTES

  • John Moore scored the game-winning goal 1:20 into overtime. Moore now has five OT game-winning goals, which is the most by a defenseman since 3-on-3 overtime started in the 2015-16 season. He also had an assist on Hischier’s second goal.
  • Nico Hischier had three points (2g-1a) on the night. It was his first goal and three-point night of his NHL career/as a Devil. Hischier now has seven points (2g-5a) in the first seven games of his NHL career.
    • Hischier is the youngest Devil to score a goal at 18 years , 288 days old since Craig Wolanin*. Wolanin was was 18 years, 135 days old when he scored against the Minnesota North Stars on Dec. 9, 1985.

  • Taylor Hall had four assists which tied a career-high (Apr. 3, 2013 at CGY, 1g-4a). It was Hall’s fifth four-point game of his career.
  • Drew Stafford extended his point-streak to three games (3g-1a) after he assisted Hischier’s first goal.
  • Marcus Johansson scored the tying goal, his third of the season, 15:05 into the third period.
  • Cory Schneider stopped 20 of 24 shots before he exited the game after the second period (lower body). Keith Kinkaid stopped all nine shots that he faced to improve to 2-0-0.
  • Damon Severson led the Devils with 23:24 TOI and was +3. Severson was also tied with Dalton Prout for the team lead with 4 PIM.
  • Adam Henrique led the club with a season-high seven shots.
