The Devils’ two-game, win-streak was snapped this afternoon as the club finished its season-series, 0-2-0, against San Jose. New Jersey has not defeated the Sharks at Prudential Center since Feb. 11, 2011 (0-3-2) and is 2-5-2 overall vs. SJ since the 2010-11 season.
New Jersey is now 1-3-0 in matinee games this season and are 0-2-0 at Prudential Center.
With the loss, the Devils fell to 5-5-3 against the Pacific Division and is 9-9-5 vs. Western Conference opponents in 2016-17.
The Devils were 0-2 on the power play tonight and are 5-11 (45.5%) over the last four games with the man-advantage. This was the first time in three games that New Jersey failed to convert at least once on the power play.
New Jersey was 6-6 on the penalty-kill tonight, including killing off a 1:42 three-on-five man-disadvantage in the first period. The Devils are 4-6 this season in killing opponent five-on-three power plays.
The Devils were out-shot, 38-22, including 19-3 in the first period.
New Jersey and San Jose were even in face-offs with each club going 25-for-50.
Brent Burns tied his career-high with 11 shots on goal (also, Nov. 1, 2016 at Ari.). It was the most shots an opponent had against the Devils this season.
P.A. Parenteau notched his 13th goal of the season at 11:42 of the first period. It was his first goal since Jan. 6 vs. Tor. (14 games). He needs 7pts to reach 300 in his career.
Taylor Hall had the primary assist on Parenteau’s goal. He has five points (2g-3a) over his last five games. Hall also has three goals and two assists (5pts) over his last five games vs. the Sharks. He leads New Jersey with 23 assists.
Jacob Josefson also had an assist on Parenteau’s marker. He has one goal and four assists over his last eight games.
Cory Schneider started in net for the seventh consecutive game. He stopped 34 of 37 shots in 58:55 of action, falling to 17-16-8 on the season. He has stopped 379 of 408 shots over the last 15 games for a .929 save-percentage.
Travis Zajac was 10-16 (63%) in the faceoff circle tonight.
John Moore was activated off injured reserve after missing the previous 17 games due to a concussion. He skated in 16:41 and collected two hits and one blocked shot.
Andy Greene led all Devils’ skaters with 25:21 of ice-time tonight.
