Team Notes

  • The Devils are now 5-3-3 on the season and are 2-0-0 in the tail-end of back-to-back games in 2016-17.
  • It was New Jersey’s first road victory of the season. The Devils are 1-3-2 on the road overall. The Devils are 1-0-0 vs. Metropolitan Division opponents this season.
  • After the Devils scored their second goal of the night, Carolina requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether New Jersey was off-side prior to Michael Cammalleri’s  goal. NHL Hockey Operations staff determined that the Devils entered the attacking zone legally prior to the goal.
  • The Devils were held to a season-low two shots on goal in the second period. They were outshot 21-34.
  • New Jersey was 0-2 on the power play tonight and finished 1-10 (10.0%) with the man-advantage over their three-game road-trip.
  • The Devils penalty-kill was a perfect 4-4. It was the first time New Jersey has not surrendered a power play goal since Oct. 29 (two games).
  • New Jersey out-hit Carolina 20-15 and won 54% of faceoffs tonight.

Player Notes

  • Michael Cammalleri scored a natural hat-trick tonight. The three goals were his first three of 2016-17. It was the sixth hat-trick of his NHL career, his first as a Devil and his first since Feb. 13, 2013.
  • Cammalleri’s first two goals were scored 3:25 apart. He scored his third of the night at 8:30 of the third period.
  • Travis Zajac and Beau Bennett assisted on Cammalleri’s first marker. It was Zajac’s fourth assist of the season and his second in the past two games. Bennett also assisted on Cammalleri’s third goal and recorded his first multi-point game of the season.
  • Zajac was also 10-16 (63%) in the faceoff circle.
  • Jacob Josefson had the lone assist on Cammalleri’s second goal. The assist was his second of the season.
  • Bennett and John Moore assisted on Cammalleri’s third goal. The helper was Moore’s third of the season and his second over the past three games.
  • Andy Greene scored an unassisted empty-net/shorthanded goal at 19:05 of the third period. It was the second shorthanded goal of his career (Feb. 2, 2013). It was his first goal since Jan. 19, 2016 (45 games). Greene also led the Devils with a season-high 24:27 TOI.
  • Reid Boucher (healthy scratch last four games) and Jacob Josefson (healthy scratch last six games) each played tonight.
  • Keith Kinkaid made his second start of the season and improved to 1-0-1. He stopped 33 of 34 shots (.971 save %). He is now 4-1-0 vs. the Hurricanes in his career.
