NEWARK, N.J. (November 12, 2015) – The New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center will hold their annual Food Drive, in collaboration with Goya Foods, in support of Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) on Saturday, November 14 as the Devils take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Prudential Center doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. start and tickets for the game can be purchased at NewJerseyDevils.com.
Devils fans attending the game who would like to help their New Jersey community members in need are encouraged to bring canned and non-perishable food items to Prudential Center. Devils players’ wives, members of the Devils Fan Club and volunteers from the CFBNJ will collect food items at entrances around the arena. Devils fans, who helped the team collect more than 16,000 pounds of food last November, will receive a voucher for two tickets to an upcoming game with 10 or more items donated this year.
“As leaders in our community, we are fortunate to be able to leverage the amazing power of sports and entertainment to make a difference,” said Hugh Weber, president of Prudential Center and the New Jersey Devils. “Community FoodBank of New Jersey is an outstanding organization that we are proud to support and we are thrilled to partner with Goya Foods to double the impact we will make this holiday season.”
Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic owned food company in the United States and a large supporter of many community organizations and initiatives, will match all donations pound for pound. The donation is part of the Goya Gives campaign, a series of annual donations that serves to encourage others to participate in the message of helping those in need.
“We’re proud to be a part of this year’s annual food drive and strongly believe in helping to provide much needed food to those who are without, especially during the holiday season,” says Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods. “Through our Goya Gives campaign, we hope that others will be inspired to do the same.”
The Food Drive will kick off Prudential Center and the Devils’ Season of Giving as the first of four annual initiatives, which also includes: the Coat Drive, presented by PSE&G, benefitting Jersey Cares on November 27 vs. the Canadiens; the Toy Drive benefitting the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program on December 11 vs. the Red Wings; and the Equipment Drive benefitting diversity hockey programs in Newark and Jersey City on February 19 vs. the Islanders. Tickets for all games can be purchased at NewJerseyDevils.com.
In addition to all donations made on site at Prudential Center throughout the four drives, the community partners involved with each will be the recipient of that evening’s 50/50 raffle proceeds.
